All portraits are drawn from photographs which you provide.
Photographs should be of studio quality, clearly depicting the facial features. Other photos may be used, however, the pupil (black area) of the subjects' eyes must be visible, along with the eyelashes, etc. of the eye area. This is the first area inspected by Doug Watkins to determine the possibility of drawing the subject's portrait. Please keep in mind, Doug does not 'create' facial features, etc. He duplicates what he sees and then creates the finished product in his unique style of portraiture. Clothing should not be too cluttered with designs or patterns and also be sure the background does not interfere with subject.
In some instances, you may not have a photo available to be drawn from. I suggest for those customers to contact free-lance photographers in their area who specialize in photo portraits. For a nominal fee, these photographers will take an entire roll of film of the subject and then provide a 'contact' print of the negatives onto a single sheet of photographic paper. This makes it easy to select the pose(s) you like best so you may have the photographer to print an 8" x 10" copy of the favorite pose(s) you select. An 8" x 10" black and white or color photo is what I prefer to work from. It will show more details than a smaller photo. You may email attach a high resolution digital image also. I will print out a 8 x 10 for my own use. Please use a light background and not a lot of clutter.

Finished Artwork:
Your portrait will be drawn on the finest quality art paper. Portraits are drawn on paper sizes having ample free space for matting and framing purposes. This allows a plentiful amount of free space ("air") around the drawing for custom trimming by your framing professional.
